# Recommendations vs Scenario Planner vs Budget Planning

> Understand how these three planning tools fit together and when to use each one.

## Overview

These three pages work together, but they solve different problems.

## Budget Planning

Use [Budget Planning](/planning/budget-planning) when you need to define the budget framework the platform should plan against.

This is where you:

* enter monthly budgets
* set channel guardrails
* choose the go-live day for the next budget cycle

Think of this as the operating budget source of truth.

## Recommendations

Use [Recommendations](/using-provalytics/recommendations) when you want the model’s best constrained answer right now.

This is where Provalytics shows:

* recommended allocation across channels
* scenario budget views
* max daily spend guidance
* deeper allocation detail inside the media hierarchy

Think of this as the model-led answer.

## Scenario Planner

Use [Scenario Planner](/planning/scenario-planner) when you want to test a plan deliberately.

This is where you:

* adjust spend intentionally
* explore what-if allocations
* compare how a custom plan differs from the baseline or recommended view

Think of this as the user-led answer.

## The simplest way to think about it

* `Budget Planning` = what budget are we planning against?
* `Recommendations` = what does the model think we should do?
* `Scenario Planner` = what happens if we try something different?
